IN THIS LESSON

Morning routines have this stigma around them. People think they are meant for those girls who are just effortlessly perfect. That it’s not something that can fit into their lifestyle but I’ve got some news for you. No one is effortlessly perfect. Maybe from the outside it looks like that but that’s never the reality. Your lifestyle isn’t what's stopping you from a morning routine but rather you are. Now I haven't always had a morning routine myself. I wasn’t the girl waking up at 6am and going to pilates having my greens in the morning looking effortless. I was the girl who woke up at ten and rolled out of bed with puffy eyes and dried drool on my cheek. It wasn’t until early in my senior year of college that I learned how to develop a morning routine, and understand how much it helped to start off my day.

Reframe Your Thinking: Morning of Me:

Don’t look at a morning routine as this morning chore, but rather as your “morning of me”

How a Morning Routine Helps:

  • Boosts focus and productivity

  • Supports mental health

  • Energizes the body

  • Builds consistency and discipline

  • Creates a sense of control

Barriers You’ve Put in Place to Avoid Accepting a Morning Routine:

  • “I don't have time”

  • “It's too complicated”

  • “I wont remember”

  • “I don’t wanna wake up early”

  • “It wouldn't fit into my lifestyle”

Lets Build a Routine:

Step 1: Set Goals:

Why are you looking to build a morning routine?

Are you looking to have a calmer morning? To be more focused? Are you looking for a bit more structure in your day? To have time to yourself? Or maybe you don’t know why you want one. As much as I encourage you to set a goal, if you keep coming up blank, that's okay. Maybe after you start to get a routine you’ll realize some goals.

Step 2: Building Blocks:

A morning routine doesn’t have to be long; it can be 5 minutes or it can be an hour, whatever fits best into your routine. You can build your own based on some of the guidelines I’m gonna provide or if you need a little more help start off with my guide and learn how to adjust it to your lifestyle.

  1. Wake up:

    1. Get out of bed, give yourself a little extra time in the morning so that you don’t have to rush (*if your not a morning person like myself set your alarm across the room forcing you to get out of bed and turn it off.)

    2. Open the curtains, take your vitamins, and have a glass of water

  2. Mind & Body:

    1. Take a few minutes for yourself whether it be reading, journaling, making a coffee or maybe a workout. Whatever it is, take 5 minutes to be off your screen and just be there for yourself.

Step 3: Make it Realistic:

Now that I have given you a little look into a routine, you can see it doesn't need to be complicated. It's not supposed to be. Routines that work for other people might not be what works for you. So build off of this routine and customize it to your lifestyle. Add in your makeup routine, your daily run, or maybe making breakfast for yourself. Start stacking your habits. If you don’t achieve your new routine everyday that's okay, adjust it to be realistic, and obtainable.

A morning routine isn’t all about waking up early, and being put together – it’s about creating intentional moments that help you throughout the day. Your morning routine is a Morning of You no matter what it may look like.
