IN THIS LESSON

You don’t have to choose between having a life and reaching your goals. The all-or-nothing mindset is what’s actually holding you back. Here’s how to build a routine that lets you go out, have fun, and still stay consistent.

You don’t need to be “good” all week to make yourself feel better about having fun on the weekends.

Reframe Your Thinking:

  • Society and social media have taught us that in order to be healthy you need to say no to making plans, to skipping that dinner, and making sure that you’re staying on track. Realistic and sustainable health and wellness isn’t about one or the other is about sustainably finding that balance. A routine that works when everything is in control isn’t a sustainable routine, it's a restriction.

  • Now this isn’t to say that you can keep achieving your goals even when staying out till 4a.m. every weekend and drinking constantly, but there is a  balance. If you are looking to keep a healthy lifestyle much like myself but you still want to have fun, experience life, and have fun in your 20s you shouldn’t have to feel guilty or feel like you need to make up for it, or that you have fallen off track.

How Balancing Your Social Life Helps:

Having a social life isn’t taking away from your goals rather helping you in the long-term. That all or nothing mindset isn’t sustainable so by allowing yourself to have a balanced social life it’s …

  • Preventing burnout

  • Removing the feeling of restriction

  • Building a healthy lifestyle you can enjoy

Barriers You’ve Created:

  • “If I go out my progress will be ruined”

  • “I will only see results with restriction”

  • “I’ll start on Monday”

  • “I can’t eat out and stay on track”

Lets Build a Habit:

Step 1: Stop Labeling Days as “Good” or “Bad”

  • One meal, one night, one plan isn’t the definition of your progress

Step 2: Plan Around Your Life

  • If you know you’ve made plans to get dinner plan to eat balanced meals, get your workout in, and achieve what you need to do before your plans rather than just skipping all of it because of a dinner plan. Work your goals around your life and plans.

  • Going out to eat doesn’t have to be unhealthy. If you have strict dietary goals look at the menu ahead of time, or eat before and meet up with everyone after. Just because you can’t go to one doesn’t mean you can’t go after.

You need routines that are sustainable even when your life isn’t. Finding the perfect balance isn’t easy but it is possible.
